Crochet patterns use different terminology depending on where they’re written. The two main systems are UK terms and US terms, and while the stitches are made in the same way, the names are different.

This can be confusing at first, but once you understand the pattern, it becomes much easier to follow designs from anywhere in the world.

I choose to learn and teach crochet in US terms. The biggest reason for this is because the US terminology personally makes more sense to me.

The three most common stitches you'll use are the single crochet, double crochet, and treble crochet. With each of these stitches there is a manoeuvre that we do and it correspond with the name of the stitch.

For the single crochet, you do it once.

For the double crochet, you do it twice.

For the treble crochet, you do it three times.

One, two, three! It just clicks.

Keeping reference to this chart may clear some confusion! The letters in brackets are abbreviations for the stitches that patterns use.
