What is a Chain?

A crochet chain (abbreviated as ch) is the foundation of most crochet projects. It's a series of loops linked together, created with yarn and your crochet hook. Think of it like the starting line—it forms the base row that you build your stitches on.

✨ How to Make a Chain:

1. Start with a slipknot on your hook.

2. Yarn over by swinging your hook to the left and under the yarn. The yarn is over the top of the hook, therefore called yarn over.

3. Pull the yarn through the loop on your hook.

4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 to make as many chains as your pattern calls for.

Each time you yarn over and pull through, you add one chain.

💡 Tip:

• Keep your tension even—not too tight or too loose. This will be really hard for beginners and you'll almost always do it too tight!

• Practice making smooth, even chains before moving on to stitches
